SEA HAG OYSTERS
With documented sightings as far back as the 1700’s, Barnstable Harbor is known for its ethereal apparitions. Sea Witches (or Sea Hags) were known for their ability to control the the wind, the tides and the moon with a mysterious power drawn from the brine of the sea and influence the catches of fishermen.
There’s a legend surrounding the Great Marsh where we farm. It involves an old, hunched over, faceless woman with a driftwood staff, who slowly and effortlessly, in the dead of night , snakes her way along the tidal pools and mud flats, endlessly searching for something only she knows. The locals will swear that if a brave soul was to venture out on the right night, with the right moon, and the right tide, that they could catch a glimpse of her, but warn to not let her catch a glimpse of you…
Grown on the deepest, darkest part of our farm, our Sea Hag Oysters pay homage to the old girl in their shape, size, and mystery. Always crisp and full of the ancient brine that has flowed from the Great Marsh for thousands of years, they are a must try.
